Do I qualify to participate in this project?
To participate, parents/caregivers must:
Have a child between the ages of 11 and 14.
Be the child’s legal guardian.
Have concerns about your child's well-being or success in school.
Have a smartphone with text messaging capability and access to email.
Speak and read English or Spanish.
Not be participating in another study of the University of Oregon - Prevention Science Institute.
What will be asked of me and what is the time commitment?
Caregivers and youth will complete 5 surveys over a 2-year period of time.
Each survey will take about 45 minutes to complete.
In addition to the surveys, some caregivers will be randomly assigned to also use an app designed for middle school parents and will receive free one-on-one coaching sessions on the phone or via Zoom.
Caregivers can earn up to $375 and youth can earn up to $125.
All study activities will be completed remotely.
wILL MY CHILD PARTICIPATE TOO?
Yes! Youth will be asked to complete 5 surveys over a 2-year time period as well. Youth must be able to complete surveys on their own or as an interview on Zoom with project staff without help from a parent/caregiver. Each survey takes about 30 minutes to complete.
